Creating Pet Portraits

From a selection of photographs and through attention to fine detail, my aim is to reproduce a sensitive true to life portrait in pastel of your companion whether it is a dog, cat or horse.

Being an animal lover my self i understand the importance to not only capture the physical characteristics of your pet but also the spirit within, my joy is to attempt to bring out these characteristics of each pet it may be the sticky up ear, the eyes or a lopsided grin the list goes on. It's these tiny touches that personalize your pet portraits.

The Eyes

The focus of each of my pet portraits is in the eyes, and the story of an animal can convey in a simple expression without saying a word. This is where i begin my pet portraits, this is where i begin my paintings, where i focus my attention and the base upon which the portrait grows. Slowly and with great care the personality of each subject comes to life. It's all in the eyes!!

Pastel paintings

I have found Pastels to be the best medium for painting the perfect portrait, the soft velvety texture enhance the painting making it almost good enough to touch.

Pastels have a lovely quality that give rich colours and depth to a picture, giving texture and a fantastic reality, making it much more real than anything else i have tried
