Photgraphs of your pet

Photographs of your pet
You will be ideally be taking photographs of your pet, in natural light, out of doors on a sunny day with soft cloud. Most importantly you want the animals eyes to show, A very bright day can make the animals eyes to disappear into slits, as animals tend to back up to the sun. Very strong sunlight tends to produce strong contrasts and can loose detail. Also if it is hot dogs tend to pant, they show their teeth and big pink tongues which tends to look wrong on a portrait and take s away the detail of the eyes. If not outside then near a window where there is good light coming through.
Ideally the sun needs to come from the side, but it is not always possible to organise this as the animal isn't always obliging.
Painting of your dog
As you can see from the photograph above tufty was indoors but there was natural light coming through, perhaps a little bit to much bit it gave the painting a glow which i thought looked good.
Below tufty is Grace a black Labrador, you can see how important it is to get good natural light which helps to recreate the natural form of your pet, and at the bottom is Carla with the head slightly tilted shows interest and personality.
You need to make sure that the photograph of your dog is taken at it's level and not from above, this is especially important as a small dog or cat can look like a head with a nose sticking out of it, if you take the photo standing above it,
Formal or Informal photograph
Next you have to decide whether you want a formal or informal photographs of your pet, for example, do you want your dog or cat asleep curled up on the chair or with it's legs up in the air. Perhaps you want a more classic look of a head and shoulder pose. Photographs of your dog or cat can take a lot of time but to get that perfect painting of your dog or cat it's worth the wait.
